Wordpress The Software Behind The Blog Crashed And Our Backups Were Somehow Faulty. So A Lot Of Data Was Lost

Kaboom went our data

A sad incidence occurred yesterday with the TechMasai blog. What happened is that the software, Wordpress crashed on us and we could not change or affect anything.

When we did re-install the software and added a backup, the backup would not work due to some unforeseen problems. We then had to add an old backup, which is present on the platform at this moment.

The effect has been severe. Out of about 340 posts, we lost about 280 posts. The comments are still visible, but they are no longer of use substantially, since the original blog posts have been lost. Read more »

Map Kibera Is An Initiative To Create A Digital Map Of Kenya’s Biggest Slum
Map kibera

Map kibera

Map Kibera is probably one of the best grassroots technology initiatives to happen in Kenya this year. The idea is to map Kibera slum, one of the biggest slums in Kenya.

If you do not know what a slum is, a slum is like a ghetto but probably worse.

Slums suck worst of all not really due to the crime and poverty prevalent in them, but the unregulated, and unstructured nature of the environment. The lack of information about Kibera slums has very serious repercussions to anyone who wants to foster any change within the community.

The way Map Kibera works is that Read more »

A Review Of The Reasons Why Most African Entreprenuers Start Of With Social Networks

Also worthy of note is the large number of open source or Ning powered social networks which actually have vibrant communities. I had one, before we shut it down, Africanpath has one, and now the guy from Project Diaspora has one.
