An interview With Ahmed Mukoshy The Young Creative Force Behind Yarnable, And YRN.ME
Ahmed Mukoshy is a young 20 year old Nigerian serial entrepreneur who founded of Yarnable, an elegant micro-blogging platform and YRN.ME a URL shortener. Mr. Mukoshy has proven to be a creative and innovative force who eye on quality has helped to raise the bar on the implementation and design of local start-ups to a new frontier.
We recently caught up with the young techie to get his perspective on a few topics.
TechMasai: What projects have you worked in recently in the web 2.0 sector?
Mr. Mukoshy: Well, my two major projects in the web 2.0 area are yrn.me and yarnable.com which I both built from scratch and hoping to build them to a world class standards.
TechMasai: What makes Yarnable different from other micro-blogging platforms already present?
Mr. Mukoshy: Yarnable is not just a micro-blogging tool, but also a platform allowing users to interact more specifically via related topics, just like a typical forum, you may call it a micro-social-forum based on 140 characters concept.
Yarnable allow users to find topics that interest them the most and share their thoughts in form of threads, making
interaction a fabulous real-time conversation.
Yarnable will also be having additional features coming in time which I highlighted at BarCamp Nigeria 2010 in Lagos during the public beta release. Details at http://yrn.me/dp37o (BLOG)
TechMasai: What is the potential of start-ups like YRN.ME in providing value to Nigerian and the world community at large?
Mr. Mukoshy: As we all know the area of url-shorting is already crowed with brands like bitly and tinyurl. However, yrn.me was built with the aim to deliver a local feel of such service.
Yrn.me is an abbreviation of “Yarn Me”, a phrase widely used in Africa, mostly in Nigeria, meaning “Tell-Me”.
Yrn.me also sets out to compete with these major brands, even if it may not have the largest share at least it will have a share.
More features will be coming soon on the service such as statistic report and custom keywords. However, the time of release is not specific.
TechMasai: You fit the definition of a serial entrepreneur. having launched first YRN.ME and then Yarnable. Did you consciously take this approach to creating start-ups?
Mr. Mukoshy: Yes, yrn.me was built after I had began my research on building Yarnable. I pictured it in advance, since yarnable is similar to twitter (limited to 140 characters) a url-shortner will be a necessity.
Today, Yarnable utilizes yrn.me via its API which any developer can use to remotely shorten urls too.
TechMasai: What lies in the future of Mr. Ahmad Mukoshy, the serial entrepreneur?
Mr. Mukoshy: I see a brighter future to my start-ups, more especially due to the never-ending passion I have on them. I will develop both Yarnable and Yrn.me to a higher standard with employing additional developers to make the journey a smooth one.
I also love building new brands, new start-ups. So, I might be building more and more web applications to come.
